Gato Barbieri
“
Gato was absolutely the first one who gave me a sense of theintensity of jazz, of the incredible energy that this music can give off: I in ’64 had not yet come to know this aspect so well, and Gato made me understand it very well, with all the nuances, and it was beautiful. Gato had a sense of intensity like Coltrane had: he was of that breed there. But it was a quiet intensity, because then – and Coltrane was like that too – he was a calm, gentle person’. Here he plays standards and this covers a huge gap, as there is no record documentation of his extraordinary and unique way of playing them. May I add, that I am proud to be part of this recording. „ Franco D'Andrea
